Coach access, for trips that depart around 9.00am or return at around
3.15pm, is very difficult. Congestion in Nevern Road with parents
waiting to pick children up means that coaches have to park at least
250m away and the children walk to/from the school.
Coach drivers regularly complain to the school that they cannot gain
access to the school in order to pick up/drop off children.
Delivery drivers regularly complain to the school that they cannot gain
access to the school to effect their deliveries because of inconsiderate
parking, both by parents and by residents of Nevern Road. These
complaints (like those of the coach drivers) are made in person and no
letters exist to support these statements.
Residents of Nevern Road regularly telephone the school to complain
about inconsiderate parking by parents. Some parents have been known to
park across or even in residents’ driveways. Residents are always
encouraged to report these incidents to the police. The school regularly
puts items onto school newsletters requesting parents to be mindful of
their inconsiderate parking and the annoyance it causes to our
neighbours.
In our recent parent questionnaire, inconsiderate parking outside the
school gates and in Nevern Road was the single biggest complaint that
was noted. The problem can only be solved with help from the local
authority. As a school, we have no jurisdiction over parking
problems in the local community.
