When will
my child
start school?
|
During
the term when your child becomes 5 years old, we refer to them as
Reception children. Before
this, we refer to them as Early Years children.
Early Years children have the option to start school at the
beginning of the Autumn Term (September) following their 4th birthday so
they could be with us for two terms as Early Years and then one term as
Reception. Children are not
legally obliged to attend school until the term following their 5th
birthday, at this time they are referred to as Year 1.
Many parents like to take advantage of an early start for their
children. If you feel your
child is not ready to start school in September please come and discuss
the situation with either the Headteacher or the Early Years/Reception
Co-ordinator. You may
decide that you would like your child to start later in the term. We are always happy to discuss start dates with parents and
find a time that is going to be most beneficial to the child. Children
in the early years class must go home at lunchtime until the school
decides that they are ready to stay – usually after the first term.
Reception children may stay to school dinner or bring a packed
lunch from their first day at Wyburns, at the discretion of the
Headteacher. Children normally come to school full time once they are in
the Reception class. However, it may be possible for your child to come
to school full time earlier than this.
Again, we are happy to discuss the situation with you.
