| Please note that when looking at SATs
scores for any school, the data is very crude and
cannot possibly give a full picture of that school's
achievements. SATs measure a child's response to a
test paper on one day in the year. Teacher
assessment looks at the child's achievements over
the entire year.
SATs do not take into account the starting point
for children. Children who have special educational
needs are compared with other children with no
allowances made. It may be that scoring a Level 3
in English in Year 6 is a magnificent achievement
for a child who suffers from dyslexia. SATs take no
account of this and the child is labelled as a
failure - simply because they did not achieve a
Level 4.
SATs were introduced because what was being
achieved by primary aged children, although of
value, could not be measured. We now have a system
of measuring something, even though it has no value.
Read these table by all means, but do come along
to the school to get a true picture. |
