| Dear Parents, Many of you will already know (it was never meant to be a great big secret) that I will be retiring at the end of the spring term. I have worked at the school for over 20 years first as deputy head and then as head, so you will understand that I am looking forward to it with rather mixed emotions. There is no doubt that I will miss the children; several hundred of them if you go back over the years. Nothing gives me greater pleasure than to hear of how one of our ex-Wyburns kiddies has gone on to get a degree, or has just travelled around the world, or has just had a baby. Whenever I see young men and women with their families in Rayleigh High Street it seems amazing that I knew some of them as four year olds on the first day they started school. I will especially miss the adults I have had the pleasure to work with over the past 20 years. I am so lucky that so many parents, staff and governors have been willing to share my vision over the years and if I have achieved anything at all, I have only achieved it with their support, as a member of a fantastic Wyburns team. My successor has been appointed and I can officially confirm that Mr Dale Watson will be taking over the reins when school re-opens after the Easter holidays. He will be visiting the school before he takes up his post and he has already told me how much he is looking forward to meeting the children, the staff and, eventually, the parents. If he enjoys his stay at the school as much as I have, he is in for a very pleasant next few years. There will be chance for me to say a more personal goodbye to you all before 1st April, but I would like to take this opportunity to say a heart-felt thank you to all the children, staff and governors for making the bulk of my working life such an enjoyable experience. I will think of you all when I am touring Europe in my caravan, sipping a Pimms in the sun and reading John Grisham’s latest book! Kindest regards,
MrP |
