Religious Education and Daily Act of Worship All children in school join with the staff in a daily act of collective worship unless their parents have specifically requested that they be withdrawn (see below). This normally takes the form of a school assembly taken by a member of staff or, on a Friday morning, the children themselves. Assemblies are broadly Christian in nature although we do take the opportunity to investigate and learn about celebrations from other faiths and beliefs. On some occasions, when children cannot come into the main assembly, teachers will arrange an act of worship within the classroom. This may take place at any time of the day. RE lessons at Wyburns follow the agreed syllabus for Essex schools, drawn up by the LEA, acting on advice from The Standing Advisory Council on Religious Education (SACRE). RE lessons generally reflect the religious traditions in Great Britain which are mainly Christian, whilst taking account of the teaching and practices of the other principal religions represented in Great Britain.
On most Friday mornings the children take it in turns to host a 'Class Assembly'. This is mostly a showing assembly where parents are invited in to watch their children as they display their art work, written work, sing, dance or do anything that reflects the activities that have gone on in their classrooms over the previous weeks. |
