School Meals at Wyburns Or... Click here for details of our Packed Lunch Option Since Jamie Oliver raised the issue
of school dinners on his now famous Channel 4 documentary, a lot of
things have happened in school kitchens and dining halls up and down the
country; some of it for the better but some of it for the worse. There
is no doubt that meals now have a significantly higher nutritional
standard but, sadly, the children are not eating those meals. The number
of hot dinners being taken at Wyburns (and at many other schools) has
gone down over the last year but our operating costs are still high. The
simple truth is, we cannot afford to continue providing meals at a
significant loss. If we give the children what they enjoy, the dinner
numbers rocket (and we even make a small profit) but we don’t meet the
nutritional standards. If we follow the guidelines to the letter,
children don’t stay to dinner and too much of the food ends up in the
bin. We can’t win! Please note that dinner
tickets are sold in the hall on the first day of the week. Please
do not ask for dinner tickets from the office in mid-week except in
exceptional circumstances PLEASE NOTE: Wyburns is a Turkey Twizzler and Chicken Nugget Free zone
