| On Monday 5th November, the school was advised by
Rochford District Council that an application has been made to erect a
mobile phone mast just 350 metres from the school at Lower Wyburns Farm.
We have also heard that Little Haven Children's Hospice (just the
other side of the A127) is also within the 500m circle around the
mast. Don't these children and their carers have enough on their
plates, without this?
The school has made a formal objection to this proposal on the
grounds that, in our understanding, masts of this nature pose a
potential threat to the health of vulnerable people, including (and
especially) young children.
In our campaign against the mast, we have been very busy.
With
help from a couple of parents (Sue Mackie has been superb!) we have
Sent a petition to the local planning office with hundreds of
signatures
Had an
article published in the Evening Echo
Had one of our parents speak on BBC Essex
Written to our Mark Francois MP
Spoken to ward councillor Cllr Peter Webster
Sent an official letter of protest to Rochford District Council
Sent a letter expressing our concerns to the landowner
Sought advice from the local education authority
Sought advice from a solicitor who specialised in planning
applications
Written
to Orange to ask them to attend a public meeting in order to address
parents' concern

Use one of our Objection Letters to object to your mast
to get specimen objection letters that you can download, cut
and paste and print off in order to send off to the local
authority.
If you click here
you can see a specimen letter written by Sue that can be printed
off or, if you have problems, can be cut and pasted into your word
processor. If you have any difficulties, email

The problem is that phone masts
don't need planning permission. Unbelievable, but true!
The only reason that the local authority can withhold
consent for this structure is on grounds of it being unsightly or being
located in a dangerous position, i.e. it might obscure the view of the
highway.
Consent cannot be denied on the
grounds of Health & Safety
However, the Local Authority and Government must listen
to you because unlike me (as Headteacher of a school)
YOU HAVE A VOTE.
